WNBA teams cannot officially begin signing until the free agency moratorium period ends on Saturday, but several contract agreements have already been announced, including the Atlanta Dream’s plan to re-sign Allisha Gray, as per Sean Hurd of ESPN’s Andscape.
Allisha Gray’s new contract with the Dream in free agency will be at slightly less than the new WNBA supermax, Hurd confirmed. Under the new CBA, supermax deals start at around $1.4 million. Gray’s deal will be less than that, but more than the $1.19 million that is the standard max.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft, Gray played the first six seasons of her career with the Dallas Wings before being traded to the Dream ahead of the 2023 season. She’s played the last three years with the Dream and has emerged as arguably a top-five player in the league currently.
This past season, Gray appeared in 42 out of 44 games, at a little over 34 minutes per game. She averaged a career-high 18.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 45.1 percent shooting from the field, 38.4 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 79.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Gray has been selected to the All-Star team in all three seasons now that she’s been in Atlanta, and this past year she finished top four in the MVP voting and made her first All-WNBA First Team selection.
The 2017 Rookie of the Year, Gray is a star in the prime of her career and a big reason why the Dream figure to be contenders this upcoming season. The team recently agreed to re-sign Brionna Jones, and they pulled off a massive trade for Angel Reese.
