Dwyane Wade makes major A'ja Wilson claim

No different than any other league, the WNBA keeps evolving with players who are bigger, faster and stronger. Yet, female athletes are still viewed by some as lesser than their male counterparts, even as they continue to shatter long-standing barriers.

Dwyane Wade makes huge A'ja Wilson statement

Dwyane Wade, though, seems to believe the gap between male and female athletes is rapidly closing. During his appearance on "The Underground Lounge," the Hall of Famer claimed that A'ja Wilson, the reigning WNBA MVP, would beat several NBA players in a one-on-one game, citing her dexterity, footwork and basketball IQ.

"A'ja Wilson can get a couple [of NBA players]," Wade stressed. "She's smart. One thing about a lot of basketball players, they are not smart. A lot of them know how to do one or two things. You may just be athletic and they say, 'Go be an athlete.' ... You don't know the game outside of pick-and-roll. Get into a 1-on-1 with someone like A'ja Wilson, who knows how to play basketball and has crazy footwork, your a-- is gonna get tore up if you don't know the game."

A'ja Wilson is on a historic run

Widely regarded as the best player of her generation, Wilson made WNBA history on several counts on Thursday.

In Game 3 of the Aces' first-round playoff series against the Storm, she tallied 38 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks, joining herself as the only player with the stat line in a playoff game. Earlier in the day, she was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, joining Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes as the only players in WNBA history to win both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors thrice each.

The 29-year-old center had the opportunity to win three straight WNBA titles in 2024 but lost to the eventual champions, the New York Liberty, in the second round. This year, her Aces have the second-shortest odds to win the title, behind Napheesa Collier's Minnesota Lynx. Another WNBA title will solidify her resume as the most accomplished player of her era.
