The Indiana Fever are facing a tough road ahead after superstar guard Caitlin Clark suffered an injury that will keep her sidelined for some time.
On Monday, the Fever announced that Clark "has suffered a left quadriceps strain and will be out a minimum of two weeks." The WNBA All-Star is set to be re-evaluated on June 9, so that means she'll miss their next four games against the Washington Mystics (twice), Connecticut Sun and Chicago Sky.
Considering her timeline, it's also entirely possible that she sits out their game against the Atlanta Dream on June 10, a day after her evaluation.
Clark is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game this season, so it will definitely be hard for the Fever to replace that kind of production. As a result, many are concerned about whether they will be able to win their next several games without the 23-year-old playmaker.
Interestingly, for Wednesday's game against the Mystics, ESPN's Matchup Predictor gave the Fever interesting odds. According to the ESPN computer, Indiana should still be able to win, with a 58.9 percent chance, compared to Washington's 41.1 percent
The Mystics enter Wednesday's matchup on a three-game losing streak, so it's not a surprise that they are not favored. However, it should be noted that they have fought well even in those losses.
Washington lost by just two points against the Golden State Valkyries (76-74), three points against A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces (75-72) and just six points against the Phoenix Mercury (68-62).
With that said, the Fever certainly cannot get complacent against a Mystics team that should be equally determined to get back in the win column.
Still, it should be encouraging for the Fever to be favored despite not having their best player.
