ESPN Under Fire For Controversial Angel Reese Post

Angel Reese has become such a polarizing figure that even her accomplishments stir up a debate in the WNBA community.

Earlier this month, Reese was at the center of an investigation. Fans in Indiana were accused of displaying racist behavior during the Fever-Sky game on May 17. However, the league was unable to verify those accusations.

"We have investigated the report of racist fan behavior in the vicinity of the court during the May 17, 2025 Chicago Sky at Indiana Fever game," the WNBA said. "Based on information gathered to date, including from relevant fans, team and arena staff, as well as audio and video review of the game, we have not substantiated it."

On Tuesday night, Reese made history during the Chicago Sky's loss to the Phoenix Mercury. She become the fastest player in league history to reach 500 career points and 500 career rebounds. It only took the former first-round pick 38 games to break Tina Charles' record.

ESPN celebrated Reese's historic accomplishment by announcing the news on social media along with this caption: "ICON BEHAVIOR."

Apparently, that didn't sit well with some people.

"Great example here of how left wing sports media lies work," Clay Travis of OutKick said. "Zero mention of the racism lies here eight hours after the WNBA release confirming Angel lied, instead a celebratory tweet labeling Angel Reese an icon. An icon."

"Iconic behavior is Clark smashing the 20 pt 10 assist games record in a little over one season. Reese is basically Dennis Rodman," one fan argued.

"Got a record by grabbing her own missed shots while CC has over 100 records already lmfao But hey ICON BEHAVIOR am I right," another fan replied.

There's nothing wrong with ESPN highlighting Reese's record-breaking achievement, but like we said before, she's always going to have critics.

Next up for Reese is a showdown against the Dallas Wings on Thursday night. She'll try to make history yet again for Chicago.
