The Dallas Wings have added backcourt depth by signing guard Grace Berger to a seven-day hardship contract. The move comes as the team manages multiple injuries, including absences for Maddy Siegrist and Tyasha Harris.

For Berger, the opportunity brings new energy and a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, both on the court and within the coaching staff. She’s also eager to learn from Arike Ogunbowale.

“I think they’re an up-and-coming team,” Berger told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “There are a lot of young players mixed with some good vets that I’ve been watching and playing against for a couple of years. I’m excited to be on their team and learn from them—people like Arike, obviously, there’s a lot to learn from her.”

Originally selected No. 7 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2023 WNBA Draft, Berger appeared in 36 games as a rookie and spent two seasons with Indiana before being waived ahead of the 2025 campaign. She later signed a hardship deal with the Los Angeles Sparks in June, making one appearance, and had a brief preseason stint with the Minnesota Lynx earlier this year.

Berger already feels comfortable joining Dallas, having built relationships with several current Wings players and coaches before arriving.

“Coach Jhared [Simpson]—he was with me at the Fever the past two years, and I have a good relationship with him. I hit him up right away,” she told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “I’m also in the same draft class as Haley [Jones] and Maddy [Siegrist], so I got to know them through that and from playing Athletes Unlimited with them. We’re pretty good friends, so it was nice to already know a couple of people here.”

Berger also pointed to the chance to play alongside younger guards like Paige Bueckers, JJ Quinerly, and Aziaha James as something she’s looked forward to after following their college careers closely.

“Young players like JJ, Paige, Aziaha—I’ve kept up with them over the past couple months in their college career,” Berger told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “So to be able to be their teammate, be on the floor with them, and already be kind of familiar with their game—I’m just excited about it.”

As for her role, Berger said the coaching staff has emphasized flexibility and self-awareness. Rather than defining specific areas, the message has been clear: come in, be yourself, and help wherever needed.

“They already have a lot of really great players and talent on the floor,” Berger told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “They’re an up-and-coming team that’s getting better as the season goes on. So I just want to be myself and bring what I bring to the game—handling the ball, shooting, defensively—anything I can do to help the team, I’ll do.”

Berger brings a strong foundation of college success to the WNBA. During her five-year career at Indiana University, she totaled 1,841 points, 573 assists, and 752 rebounds while becoming the program’s all-time winningest player with 118 victories. She earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and was named an AP All-American Honorable Mention in her final season.

While her mid-range scoring and downhill attacks defined her college game, Berger has continued to expand her offensive toolkit since entering the pros.

“In college, I was a big mid-range shooter. Getting downhill was kind of my game, and that’s still my go-to,” she told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “But I’ve definitely been working on adding the three, adding that range. That’s been a big focus.”

After participating in shootaround, Berger will be available for the Wings’ matchup against the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday. While Dallas is on a four-game home winning streak, the 6-16 squad seeks to bounce back after a 0-3 road trip, with its most recent game being a 102-83 loss against the Fever.
