The preseason is usually where teams fine-tune rotations and build rhythm, but for the Indiana Fever, the focus right now is just as much about patience as it is preparation. With expectations rising around a young core that continues to grow together, every practice and preseason game carries a bit more weight. Still, early in the calendar, health often becomes the bigger storyline.
That was the case on Wednesday, when head coach Stephanie White addressed the status of multiple key players ahead of Indiana’s upcoming game with the Dallas Wings on Thursday.
While preseason results are secondary, availability is not. And for one of Indiana’s most reliable contributors, the latest update suggests the team is choosing a cautious route rather than rushing anything back too soon.
Steph White said she doesn’t anticipate playing Aliyah Boston, Ty Harris, or Lexie Hull tomorrow in the preseason game against Dallas.

“I think we'll still probably be cautious with that. I think the goal is probably to get, get some of them minutes on Saturday, if we can.”
Speaking ahead of the Fever’s next preseason game, White made it clear the team is prioritizing long-term health over short-term reps. She said she does not anticipate playing Lexie Hull, along with Aliyah Boston and Ty Harris, in the matchup against Dallas.
“I think we'll still probably be cautious with that,” White said. “I think the goal is probably to get some of them minutes on Saturday, if we can.”
For Hull specifically, the update signals more of a precaution than a long-term concern. Indiana is simply not willing to take risks this early, especially with a player whose impact often goes beyond the stat sheet.
Hull has quietly become one of the more important pieces on this roster. Since being selected in the first round of the 2022 WNBA Draft, she has carved out a role defined by effort, defensive intensity, and versatility.
At 6-foot-1, Hull gives Indiana flexibility on the wing. She can guard multiple positions, crash the glass, and stretch the floor when needed. Last season, she posted career highs across the board, including 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while starting 30 contests. Her development has mirrored the team’s overall rise.
She also fits seamlessly alongside franchise centerpiece Caitlin Clark and Boston, giving the Fever a balanced mix of scoring, playmaking, and defensive grit.
Indiana’s decision to hold Hull out reinforces a larger theme. This team is thinking beyond preseason. With big-time expectations and a deeper roster, staying healthy for the long haul matters more than squeezing in extra minutes in April.
If all goes according to plan, Hull could return to action soon, possibly as early as the next preseason game on May 2nd. Until then, the Fever appears content playing the long game.
For a team with deep playoff hopes, that approach might be the smartest move they can make right now.
