Fever Coach Stephanie White Had Strong Words for Connecticut Sun After Win

Sunday’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun was a special occasion for Fever's coach Stephanie White. It was a homecoming of sorts for the veteran shot-caller as she returned to her former stomping ground after previously serving as the Sun’s head coach for two seasons.

White won the Coach of the Year title in her first year in Connecticut, during the 2023 season when she led the Sun to a 27-13 record. White’s stint in Connecticut came to an end during the offseason after she agreed to a new deal with Indiana, which is where she spent the majority of her playing career during the early 2000s.

White had some high praise for her players after the Fever secured an impressive come-from-behind victory against Connecticut on Sunday. After going down by as many as 21 points, Indiana battled back to escape with a 99-93 win in overtime.

In her postgame press conference, White also had some strong words for her former team.

"It meant a lot," White said on the warm reception she had upon her return to Connecticut. "I mean, there's so many special people here and so many special memories that I have. Whether it was walking out in the casino or coming in behind the halls here. Pregame just seeing so many friendly faces in the stands, it melted my heart.

"I was so thankful... It's a special place. I'm grateful to have had my time here and thankful for all these familiar faces that I saw."

White’s tenure with the Sun may have been short-lived, but it is clear that both the organization and the city hold a special place in her heart. This is also why it was extra special for White to mark her return to the city with a memorable win.
