Fever Coach Stephanie White Makes Strong Angel Reese Comment on Wednesday

Head coach Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever suffered a huge blow this week as All-WNBA guard Caitlin Clark was ruled out for at least two weeks with a quad strain.

On Wednesday, the Fever will play their first game without their starting point guard, taking on Brittney Sykes and the Washington Mystics at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

White started her second tenure in Indiana with a bang, defeating Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, 93-58, in the season opener.

But the major headline from that game came a day later, when the WNBA announced an investigation of alleged fan comments directed toward Reese. The investigation lasted 10 days before the league admitted it had "not substantiated it."

However, White had no interest in discussing hateful comments toward Reese. In fact, she had high praise for the former LSU Tigers forward.

Ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Mystics, White was asked about basketball players from the Baltimore area, where Reese grew up. The 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year didn't hesitate to comment on Reese.

"When you think about Angel McCoughtry, obviously and Angel Reese," White said (4:25), "Maryland in general, from a basketball perspective, they love basketball. Certainly competitive, elite players who have come out of the area."

White also opened up about playing a game in Baltimore, a city without its own WNBA or NBA team.

"So for us, particularly on the women's side, to be able to have exposure for the young people who are striving to make it to the college realm or to the WNBA," White added, "it's important for us. Anytime we get an opportunity to participate in a new market, we certainly don't take it for granted."

While the Fever may be without Clark for at least four games, Reese and the Sky have had some misfortune of their own. Following Tuesday's loss to the Phoenix Mercury, Chicago now sits at 0-4 to start the season.

The Fever and Mystics will square off at 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday. The game will be televised on NBA TV.
