‘Fever Girl’: Indiana Fever Welcomes Blake Shelton at Practice in Indianapolis

The Indiana Fever has by far the biggest fanbase in the WNBA, with over 17,000 fans regularly seated at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. That number tends to attract even high-profile celebrities as such.

And the most recent celebrity to visit the team was country music singer Blake Shelton. On April 29, the 49-year-old visited the girls during a training session and ended up leaving Sophie Cunningham starstruck.

The Fever gifted Shelton his very own team jersey with the No.7 on the back. “I got my fit. That’s right.” He exclaimed. And then Cunningham added, “He’s a Fever girl!”

It was clear that out of all the players, Cunningham was the most exhilarated to see Shelton with her own eyes.

The multi-time Grammy award-nominated singer-songwriter surprised the Fever squad following his announcement that his bar-restaurant Ole Red is opening its newest branch in downtown Indianapolis.

Ole Red will open in 2027 as part of the new Fieldhouse District establishment located on Meridian Street.

The 29-year-old is a native of Columbia, Missouri, and absolutely loves country music herself, so much so that she mentioned in February that she has her own song in the works.

But for now, Cunningham is fully preparing for the upcoming WNBA season after signing a new one-year deal with the Fever following the latest CBA.

Cunningham played only 30 games last season due to a right knee injury. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals in 25.2 minutes per game.

However, dedication to the Fever is evident beyond her statistics. Cunningham recently revealed how much she wanted to succeed with the Fever next season and that she denied multi-million dollar contracts from other teams during free agency.

While Cunningham was ecstatic meeting Shelton, she recently revealed who her dream guest would be to watch her live.

Sophie Cunningham Wants Will Ferrell to Watch the Indiana Fever Live

The 29-year-old took part in the Fever’s “Puppy Room” interview on Monday. Cunningham was naturally asked a ton of questions, including who her dream guest would be to watch her courtside.

“Definitely Will Ferrell,” Cunningham said. “I think he is so my vibe, and he’s at a Lakers game last night, so he needs to come to a Fever game.”

Will Ferrell is one of the most popular comedians in the world, starring in movies and TV shows like Step Brothers, Elf, 30 Rock, and The Office.

The 6-foot-1 guard was also asked which show or movie she’d love to guest-star in, and Cunningham chose to star in a line similar to Ferrell.

“I think I would like to do, you know, like, ‘Stepbrothers’ was like a thing,” Cunningham said. “I think they need to do a ‘Stepsisters’ and I would be the Will Ferrell.”

With the Indiana fandom rapidly increasing and Blake Shelton being the latest celebrity to join the Fever family, we might be seeing Will Ferrell cheering on Cunningham courtside sooner rather than later.
