Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever battled through a physical matchup against the Golden State Valkyries on Friday night. It was a hard-fought encounter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, with Indiana securing a 92-80 win.
Cunningham came off the bench for 11 points in 28 minutes of action. She shot 4-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-5 from three-point territory.
Cunningham, however, did not come out of the contest unscathed. In fact, she took to social media after the game to show a big scratch on her forehead. The outspoken guard also emphasized that no foul was called on the play despite the clear contact on her face.
In her video, Cunningham tagged teammate Tyasha Harris. According to Cunningham, she asked Harris about her scratch midgame. Harris told Cunningham, “You’re fine,” which was why the former was surprised to see the big gash on her face after the game.
Cunningham tagged Harris in her post, along with a “FAKE FAKE FAKE” message for her teammate.

Harris caught wind of the post and decided to respond. The veteran shared Cunningham’s video on her own Instagram story, along with an explanation of her side.
“Not true I said yes but it’s the white meat showing so it didn’t look as big …. Then later the blood came ” Harris wrote.
Harris attempted to defend her midgame update by saying that the scratch did not look as bad as it did postgame. Either way, what cannot be denied is that it was a very physical affair on Friday night.
For her part, Harris did not get much playing time against the Valkyries. She, too, came off the bench, but only managed two minutes, registering a foul and one turnover.
Harris joined the Fever in the offseason via free agency. The 5-foot-10 backup guard has played in all six games for Indiana so far, averaging 2.2 points, 1.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 12.5 minutes.
