Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White have been in the middle of some drama early this season, especially with the Indiana Fever struggling to begin the 2026 campaign. After the club’s 100-84 loss to the Portland Fire on May 30, White and the coaching staff called for a team meeting. On Tuesday, the 48-year-old head coach opened up about what was said at the team meeting.
While talking with media members on Tuesday after the Fever’s practice, White gave a brief description of the topics that were covered during the team meeting, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. White claimed that it was good for the players to be open and honest with each other as the team aims to improve as the season progresses.
“I think anytime you get an opportunity to have authentic, real conversation, it’s good,” said White… “Some of it’s execution and some of it’s learning one another, and some of it’s dealing with all the things our team has to deal with.”

The Fever are 4-4 in their first eight games of the season, and are ranked ninth overall in the league. While having Caitlin Clark back from injury is great news for the organization, there just seems to be something going on that’s preventing Indiana from hitting its full potential.
Most of the drama occurred after the Fever ruled Clark out just moments before the 90-73 win over the Fire on May 20. The 24-year-old guard was not on the injury report the previous day, and the franchise was given a warning from the WNBA about the situation.
Things escalated on May 30 when Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White were seen in what appeared to be a heated argument during a timeout call against the Fire. However, the three-year veteran has proclaimed that her relationship with White is good.
Clark has played in seven games so far this season. In those contests, the two-time All-Star is averaging 20.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 39.3% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the three-point line.
