The Indiana Fever made several key additions this offseason in hopes of giving Caitlin Clark a stronger supporting cast and building on last season’s 20–20 record.

One of those newcomers was Sophie Cunningham, who arrived in Indiana via a trade with the Phoenix Mercury.

The seventh-year WNBA veteran made an immediate impact in the preseason, scoring 21 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out two assists in the opener against the Washington Mystics.

She followed that performance with six points, three rebounds and one assist against the Brazil national team. In Saturday’s preseason finale, she added five points, two rebounds and one assist before exiting with an ankle injury.

After the game, Cunningham reassured Fever head coach Stephanie White that she’d "be fine." She also appeared to be in good spirits, later posting a TikTok following the game.

In the caption, she revealed that she doesn’t have a boyfriend, but wouldn’t mind having a man to take care of her.

"Lol but like I wouldn't mind a man to take care of me too ya know? #fyp," Cunningham wrote.

The 28-year-old guard spent her first six WNBA seasons with the Mercury, who selected her in the second round (No. 13) of the 2019 draft.

Cunningham had her best year in the 2022 season, averaging 12.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

She’s expected to be a key contributor for the Fever this season. On Saturday, White experimented with the lineup, giving Cunningham the starting nod over DeWanna Bonner.
