Sophie Cunningham’s first season with the Indiana Fever ended in misery. The 29-year-old had been making a lot of waves with her new team following her offseason move from the Phoenix Mercury, but her campaign was cut short by an unfortunate knee injury.
Cunningham tore her right MCL during a game against the Connecticut Sun on Aug. 17. The injury required surgery, which meant that the Fever had no other choice but to shut her down for the remainder of the season. The 6-foot-1 guard ended her debut campaign with averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 triples in 25.2 minutes per contest.
Now that the WNBA season has officially come to an end, Cunningham has been busy with her off-court ventures. This includes her own podcast with her good friend and reality TV star West Wilson, titled “Show Me Something.”
Cunningham rose to fame as a prominent member of the most popular team in the WNBA. She became a household name after being ejected from a game after supposedly retaliating on behalf of teammate Caitlin Clark. Cunningham’s stardom led to the launch of her own podcast in July as well as to multiple brand endorsement deals.
On Tuesday, Cunningham took to social media to share an unfortunate turn of events that placed her in quite a predicament. The Fever star used her phone to record a video of herself from her own home explaining her current situation.
“My car has been completely dead,” she said. “I’ve been waiting on AAA to get here for like the past hour (and) fifteen, hour (and) thirty minutes. They keep saying they’re going to be here in 10 minutes. Not true.
“And then, I’m locked out of my house. Have a great Tuesday?”

On top of that, Cunningham also revealed in her caption that her ponytail holder broke, she’s starving and that her phone is about to die. The former Missouri Tigers star was clearly struggling with several concerning personal issues all at once.
This also isn’t the first time Cunningham’s car broke down. In August, she had to walk to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a home game after her car stopped running. At that time, Cunningham said she needed a new car.
Cunningham's one-year, $100,000 deal with Indiana concluded at the end of the 2025 campaign. She will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
