The Indiana Fever drafted Raven Johnson with the No. 10 pick on Monday at the 2026 WNBA draft. It was a smart move ahead of the new season, giving the team more backcourt depth to help stars Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell.
Johnson had just finished a promising five-year stint with the South Carolina Gamecocks. She averaged 6.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while leading the college program to two national titles. Her final year at South Carolina was her finest, averaging 5.1 assists and 9.9 points.
Ahead of her WNBA career, she's looking forward to learning from the star trio of Clark, Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
Johnson expressed her excitement for the newest chapter of her basketball career in her first-ever press conference as a WNBA player.
“Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, I think I’ll learn a lot from them,” Johnson said. “I’m gonna be a sponge. I’m probably gonna be a gnat, too. ‘Cause I’m gonna ask them a lot of questions. I’ll probably get on their nerves because of my personality, I like to joke a little bit.

“They like to win. I think that’s really big. When looking at a program like that, they have a chance of winning the WNBA [championship]. I’m happy about that.”
Fever head coach Stephanie White is already excited to have Johnson on the roster. White called the youngster a "winner" who has won at every level. She has also set the tone at every level and looks "immediately ready on the defensive end of the floor." The coach believes a player like her can be valuable for the Fever, especially with how she can defend.
“She’s experienced in big-time moments,” White said. “Really excited that she fell to us.”
White also told reporters that she has started to think about how the team can benefit from Johnson's addition. Last season, the Fever was thin at point guard and had to sign free agents when Clark was injured. This is why drafting a capable lead guard was important for Indiana.
She also said that Johnson can help allow the star players to have some rest. White said that the former South Carolina standout gives the Fever "versatility" in the backcourt. The team now has a depth of Clark, Johnson and Tyasha Harris, who signed a one-year deal with the franchise on Sunday.
A Fever team with a deeper bench is something that fans can look forward to next season.
