Fever’s Sophie Cunningham Seeks Answer From Caitlin Clark’s Boyfriend

Sophie Cunningham got along just fine with Caitlin Clark and the rest of the Indiana Fever this past season. Cunningham joined the team ahead of the 2025 season via a multi-team trade deal from the Phoenix Mercury. The 6-foot-1 guard has spent her entire six-year WNBA career in Phoenix before moving to Indiana in 2025.

Cunningham’s relationship with Clark blossomed outside the basketball court. Cunningham also became friends with Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery. On Thursday, as Clark celebrated her 22nd birthday, Cunningham decided to jump on the comments section of McCaffery’s birthday post. Cunningham had an important question to ask.

McCaffery, who has been dating Clark since 2023, took to Instagram on Thursday to send a heartfelt birthday greeting to his girlfriend. McCaffery is not very active on social media, which made this birthday post even more special.

“Happy 24th CC celebrating you is a privilege and I’m so grateful for the laughter and joy you bring to our everyday lives ♾️ 2026 has so much in store for you I love you ” he wrote.

Clark showed her appreciation with an endearing response. “Love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu❤️‍” commented the Fever superstar.

Cunningham caught wind of the sweet social media exchange and reacted with an important question.

“what did you get her for her birthday?” asked Cunningham.

Cunningham’s comment drew a lot of reaction from the fans, who also wanted to know what McCaffrey’s birthday gift was. The Butler Bulldogs assistant coach, however, has not responded, as of writing.

While Clark is under contract with the Fever through 2027, Cunningham’s one-year deal with the team has already expired. Indiana will need to negotiate a contract extension with the 29-year-old if it wants to keep Clark’s No. 1 enforcer on the team for the upcoming WNBA season.
