The LSU Tigers just won against Ole Miss. However, Flau’jae Johnson is making headlines for her actions both on and off the court.
It was the commentator’s announcement on February 20 that let everyone know about Johnson’s $15,000 donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
“She has donated $15,000 of her own money to the Kay Yow cancer fund. There are no other student athletes that has ever done that before”, the commentator said.
“She has the heart of a champion in many different ways. She is an impressive young woman who’s had a great game and has done a lot to serve her community.”

And this is not the first time for Johnson. In 2024, she donated $1000 to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund following LSU’s Play4Kay game. She has also made major donations to the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club in her hometown, donations to single mothers, etc.
Johnson’s impact is measured by more than just her on-court stats. The NIL athlete is making a brand for herself, a topic her mother recently addressed online.
Brooks, Johnson’s mother and manager, received some heat from the internet after making some comments involving her daughter, moving past a loss against South Carolina.
On February 14, the Gamecocks beat the Tigers in a 79-72 loss. Johnson recorded 21 points, the same as the Gamecocks’ Tessa Johnson. But as per Brooks, Johnson was the best player on the court, who is better without the W league.
“Even in basketball, she’s bigger than them on the floor. You go look at the stats; she beat every player on the floor that game”, she said. “Let’s get real, no South Carolina player is going before Flau’jae in the draft. South Carolina didn’t beat Flau’jae; South Carolina beat LSU.”
“These girls trying to go to the WNBA to get paid, she already paid. Flau’Jae don’t need the WNBA to be real; they need her”, Brooks added.
The 22-year-old is already building her career around both basketball and music, but the Tigers have yet to beat the Gamecocks on the paint. Brooks’ statements’ legitimacy will be tested once Johnson makes the transition into the W. What do you think about it?
