Five time All-Star and two time WNBA champion Courtney Vandersloot is expected to sign with the Chicago Sky on a one-year deal, according to a report from Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times.
WNBA free agency is open, but contracts cannot be officially signed until February 1st.
Sloot starred at Gonzaga from 2007-2011, earning an All-American nod in 2011 before going No. 3 overall in the WNBA draft to Chicago.
The 5'9 guard spent the first 12 years of her professional career with the Sky, leading the team to a championship appearance in 2014 and its first championship in 2021 alongside Candace Parker and Allie Quigley.
Vandersloot then spent the past two seasons in New York with the Liberty, making the All-Star team in 2023 and winning another championship in 2024.
Sloot returns to Chicago where she is the franchise's all-time assist leader. Her 2,849 career assists is second in WNBA history, 385 dimes behind the great Sue Bird. She is, however, first place in league history in postseason assists.
Although Sloot has only been gone two seasons, she returns to a new look Sky roster led by young star Angel Reese, who averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game as a rookie last year - finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting to Caitlin Clark.
The Sky also have a new head coach, with former Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh taking over for Teresa Weatherspoon ahead of the 2025 season.
The Sky hope to get back into the playoff picture under new management, and having a franchise icon and veteran leader in the mix can only help the development of players like Reese and center Kamilla Cardoso.
