Yvonne Ejim, one of the most accomplished players in Gonzaga women’s basketball history, is officially taking her talents to the international stage. The Calgary-born forward has been named to Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team, continuing her meteoric rise through the ranks of the sport.
Ejim wrapped up a historic career at Gonzaga in 2024, leaving behind a legacy that places her among the all-time greats in the West Coast Conference. Over five seasons, she piled up more than 2,300 career points and 1,100 rebounds—becoming the first player in WCC history to eclipse both milestones. Her final season in Spokane was nothing short of dominant, as she averaged just under 20 points and nearly nine rebounds per game while anchoring the Bulldogs on both ends of the floor. Her efforts earned her a slew of honors, including conference player of the year and national recognition among mid-major stars.
But Ejim’s basketball journey doesn’t end with Gonzaga. Her time with Team Canada has spanned multiple age groups, beginning with youth squads and culminating in her debut with the senior team at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. There, she played a key role in helping Canada secure a bronze medal. Earlier this year, Ejim was part of the group that punched Canada’s ticket to the 2024 Olympics during qualifying action in Hungary.
Her international call-up comes on the heels of her selection in the 2025 WNBA Draft, where she was picked 33rd overall by the Indiana Fever. That achievement made her not only the first Calgarian ever selected in the WNBA Draft, but also one of the few Albertans to reach that level.
Now entering the next chapter of her basketball journey, Ejim will look to make an impact at the professional level and serve as a key contributor to Canada’s Olympic aspirations. Her blend of skill, toughness, and international experience makes her a valuable asset on any stage.
