Former Iowa Star Gabbie Marshall Reacts to Caitlin Clark Being Named All-Star Captain
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK

The WNBA revealed on Sunday that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier will serve as captains for the 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game, set for July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Clark earned her captaincy by receiving 1,293,526 fan votes, the highest in the league and over 100,000 more than Collier, a testament to her rapid rise since being selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA draft.

Not long after the announcement, Clark’s former Iowa teammate and close friend Gabbie Marshall reshared the Fever’s official Instagram post to her own story, accompanied by the message, "Let’s goooo ."

Clark concluded her Iowa career as the NCAA Division I all‑time leading scorer, a two‑time national player of the year, three‑time NCAA season scoring leader and three‑time assists leader.

She was also a three-time Nancy Lieberman Award and three-time Dawn Staley Award winner, and her No. 22 jersey was retired by Iowa.

After being drafted first overall by the Fever in April 2024, Clark claimed Rookie of the Year honors, set single‑season records in assists and became the first rookie to record a triple‑double in league history.

Now in her second professional season, Clark is posting 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, 5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game through nine starts.

Marshall, meanwhile, starred at Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, winning state titles in 2017 and 2019 and earning three all‑state selections before joining Iowa in 2019.

Over five seasons with the Hawkeyes (2019-2024), Marshall evolved into the team captain by her senior year and was instrumental in Iowa’s back-to-back title runs in 2023 and 2024, starting in all 38 games each season.

Despite not pursuing a professional basketball career herself, Marshall remains one of Clark's biggest supporters.
