Former Paige Bueckers Teammate Sends Parting Message After WNBA Trade

The Dallas Wings have an 8-21 record, and despite the fine play of rookie star Paige Bueckers, they aren't exactly ready to compete for a spot in the WNBA playoffs.

They have lost eight of their last 10 games, and they have a long way to go before their roster has the type of weapons other than Bueckers that a competitive team is supposed to possess.

On Sunday, the Wings traded away one of their more promising young players, and she thanked the team and its fans for their support.

DiJonai Carrington Is Headed North

DiJonai Carrington, a third-year guard, has been dealt to the Minnesota Lynx. In return, Dallas is getting forward Diamond Miller and guard Karlie Samuelson, as well as a second-round draft pick in 2027.

She took to X to express her gratitude for her brief time with Dallas.

Carrington was a second-round pick by the Connecticut Sun in 2021. After three quiet seasons to begin her pro career, she started to break out last year.

That is when she won the WNBA's Most Improved Player award and was voted onto the All-Defensive first team. She averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals a game for Connecticut.

So far this year, Carrington has put up 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

She will now head to a Lynx squad that has the league's best record at 24-5. They lead the league in points per game, offensive rating and defensive rating, and they're looking to avenge their heartbreaking loss in last season's WNBA Finals to the New York Liberty.

Miller May Have Untapped Potential

With the Wings building for the future, they need as many young and promising prospects alongside Buckers as possible. Diamond Miller could fit that description.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 draft, she registered 12.1 points a game as a rookie. But last year, she suffered an injury in the third game of the schedule, and her playing time was cut substantially for the rest of the season.

She's averaging just 4.1 points in 9.7 minutes a game so far in 2025, but she's shooting 47.6% from the field and 53.8% from 3-point range.
