Caitlin Clark has been one of the brightest stars to hit the pro basketball scene in recent memory, and she has been credited for the large spike in interest in women's basketball over the past year or so.
After a sensational college stint with the Iowa Hawkeyes, she had a strong rookie campaign with the Indiana Fever last year. On Saturday, she started her second WNBA season with a triple-double of 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, as well as four blocks, in a 93-58 win over Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.
San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle praised Clark in an Instagram post for starting off her second season in such a promising manner.
Both Clark and Kittle are Iowa natives and played their college years at the University of Iowa.
"Decent start!!! @caitlinclark22 " Kittle wrote.
Last season, Clark averaged 19.2 points and a league-high 8.4 assists a game, which earned her an All-Star game nod and the Rookie of the Year award. Her game has been compared to that of Stephen Curry, the living legend who plays for the NBA's Golden State Warriors.
She became the NCAA's all-time leading career scorer among both women and men while at Iowa. She led the Hawkeyes to back-to-back appearances in the women's NCAA championship game, although they lost there on both occasions.
Last year, the Fever, who had finished with a losing record for seven consecutive seasons, went 20-20 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2016. This year, they're expected to seriously contend for the WNBA title.
They have added Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner and Sophie Cunningham to their roster, and they're hoping that rookie frontcourt player Makayla Timpson from Florida State will make a sizable contribution.
