Hailey Van Lith’s Change in Physical Appearance Steals Attention Before Chicago Sky Game

Hailey Van Lith's rookie season with the Chicago Sky has been full of ups and downs. Heading into Monday night's game against the red-hot Las Vegas Aces, Chicago has already been eliminated from WNBA playoff contention.

The No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft is averaging 3.6 points and 1.6 assists in 12.7 minutes per game. She has appeared in 28 of 36 possible games for the Sky, without making a single start.

Nagging ankle injuries have held back Van Lith, who turns 24 next month, from making an impact in more games — something first-year coach Tyler Marsh was hoping for when veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot went down with a season-ending injury on June 7.

As Van Lith keeps working on her game, her off-court influence has not dwindled. The online reaction to her new hair color proved it on Monday.

Hailey Van Lith's New Look

Van Lith is known for her blonde hair, but she recently added a touch of red.

She did not make a post about her new hair color on her own Instagram account, which ranks No. 7 among WNBA players with 1.3 million followers. Her teammate, Angel Reese, holds the top spot with 5 million.

Based on images shared by the Sky's official team page, the change took place some time between their game on Aug. 15 against the Golden State Valkyries and the first sighting of the new look before the game last Friday against the New York Liberty.

Van Lith did not play against New York and followed with just four minutes of action on Sunday against the Connecticut Sun. Many people were made aware of the change via a post on X on Monday, which drew plenty of rave reviews.

"This color looks good on her," said one response, while another called it "such a move."

"Okay, Hailey," praised a reply. "Red looks good on her."

"this actually fits her really well i love it," wrote one fan.

Chicago Sky Enjoying Every Moment Together

There may not be much left to play for in the season, but the Sky have not let that flatten the mood.

"We want to go out on a high note not knowing what to expect going into next year with free agency," Marsh said after their win against the Liberty. "This could be the last time all of us are in the same locker room together. You would see how much we like being around each other despite the record."

Van Lith is one of the only players signed for the Sky beyond 2025, courtesy of her three-year, $227,657 rookie contract. Reese, Kamilla Cardoso and Maddy Westbeld are the others — they are all on rookie deals.

The freedom for players like Reese, Van Lith and Kamilla Cardoso to express their full personalities — with hairstyles or otherwise — has contributed to the positive energy in the building despite their 9-27 record.

They will have another opportunity to celebrate on Monday, as the game against the Aces will include a jersey retirement ceremony for Candace Parker, who won a title with the Sky in 2021.
