Angel Reese finally joins the fray of players and coaches sharing their frustrations over the poor officiating in the WNBA. The “Bayou Barbie” and the Chicago Sky were narrowly defeated by the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, 80-75, but for Reese, the outcome would’ve been different.
Reese, who released her disappointment during the post-game interview, knew that wasn’t enough. She recalled a moment when she was attempting for an offensive rebound when the Lynx’s Bridget Carlton wrapped her hand around her. Carlton never got called for a foul, something the former LSU standout wasn’t really delighted about.

The said interaction was crucial, as it happened two minutes left in the fourth, and a foul could’ve regained the Sky’s momentum that game.
“Like hand around my waist is crazy,” Angel Reese commented on TikTok, which gained huge attention. “My man don’t even play a lot.”
Moreover, Angel Reese had all the reasons to vent out on Sunday–she made one of her impressive games of the season, a run that keeps going amidst the heavy backlash she’s facing. She finished with 16 points, 17 rebounds (10 offensive boards), and six assists on 7-of-16 shooting.
“It’s tough when you talk to officials, and I asked them, ‘Hey, we’ve only been to the free throw line twice up until the fourth quarter,’ and she tells me it’s not her job,” Reese said.
“I think this is a leaping step for us, and obviously we know we can compete with the best, but [the officiating] has to be fixed. And I don’t give a damn if I get fined because that s— is cheap, and I’m tired of this s—. ‘Cause I’ve been nice, and I’ve been humble with it, but I am tired of this s—.”
Alongside Angel Reese, who had spoken up about the league’s refereeing issues, were Indiana HC Stephanie White and LA Sparks star Kelsey Plum.
Not only did Angel Reese become skeptical of the WNBA’s officiating. Even her coach, Tyler Marsh, questioned how Minnesota had more trips at the free throw line (14-on-17) than his team, the Chicago Sky (7-on-8).
“It’s hard to imagine that we would only have eight free throws with the amount of opportunities we have in the paint,” Marsh said via Karli Bell on X. “I know that Kamilla, Elizabeth and Angel receive a lot of contact down there. For us to not get to the line more than that is frustrating.”
Nevertheless, Sunday’s loss is a painful pill to swallow for Angel Reese and Chicago. Hopefully, they could recover against the Washington Mystics on Tuesday.
