How Hailey Van Lith Reportedly Feels About Losing WNBA Job

When the Connecticut Sun picked up Hailey Van Lith after she was waived by the Chicago Sky before the 2026 season started, hopes were high that she would have a more prominent role and a better chance to improve her game.

For a brief period, it certainly looked like Van Lith had found the perfect home for her, as she averaged 8.1 points and 2.2 assists in 17.6 minutes per game with the Sun. Unfortunately, it didn't last long.

After nine games, including three starts, the Sun waived Van Lith in order to make room for guard Leila Lacan.

Lacan, who was the Sun's 10th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, was on a temporary contract suspension due to overseas obligations. On Thursday, Connecticut activated her, forcing the team to release Van Lith to create a roster spot.

Despite the abrupt ending to her time with the Sun, Van Lith reportedly has no ill feelings toward the team. In fact, she showed appreciation to the franchise for being transparent with her about the situation, according to Alexa Philippou and Kendra Andrews of ESPN.

"Van Lith is grateful to the Sun, sources told me and @kendra__andrews, for their transparency and the opportunity, and remains motivated to carry forward the momentum from her time with the Sun," Philippou and Andrews reported.

It remains to be seen what's next for Van Lith. She's eligible to sign a player development contract, so that could be an option for her. Teams like the Portland Fire and Washington Mystics could also use young talent and guard depth.
