New York Liberty point guard Sabrina Ionescu admitted to having to “evolve” with how she treats her hair, not only due to the physical demands of playing basketball, but also due to one particular teammate who used to play with her hair.
In an interview with Bustle, Sabrina Ionescu talked about her hair and the secret to why it seemingly never moves during a game.
“I’ve put a lot of work into my ponytail. I’m always trying to figure out new products that will help it stay. I don’t use gel because my hair is really fine, and it makes it greasy, so I stick with Dove hairspray. I never used to do anything to it, but then one of my teammates said I looked like a child with pieces falling out, so I had to evolve.”
When asked on social media who that one teammate was, Ionescu did not hesitate to drop the ball on who she was.

Sabrina Ionescu’s ponytail has become an iconic part of her personal brand, symbolizing her consistency, focus, and determination on the court. Since her college days at Oregon, she has maintained the same hairstyle, which fans have come to associate with her sharp shooting and leadership.
Over time, her ponytail has even been referenced in interviews and social media discussions, with some joking that it’s as much a part of her game as her three-point shot.
Sabrina Ionescu Talks Pre-Game Preparations and Superstitions
In the same interview, Sabrina Ionescu also talked about her pre-game superstitions as well as the music that gets her pumped for the game.
“Everyone’s pretty superstitious about where they sit on the bus,” she said. “I sit on the right side and a lot of the time, the order [in which] we go onto the court for warmups has to be the same.”
“I’ll play Luke Combs before every single game, because his music is so relaxing. I don’t want anything to hype me up. I’ll put one of his albums on in the background as I get ready.”
During her offseason from the WNBA, Sabrina Ionescu joined Unrivaled, the newly formed 3×3 winter league, as its final player. She weighed her options carefully before committing, citing the league’s historic deal and her opportunity to be involved on the ownership side as key factors in her decision.
During her time with Unrivaled, she also embarked on an Asia tour, visiting the Philippines and China to promote both the WNBA and her Nike signature shoe.
Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty will go to the 2025 WNBA aiming for a back-to-back championship title.

Dallas Wings Waive Grace Berger Following Debut Against Seattle Storm
The Dallas Wings have waived guard Grace Berger. The move comes just one day after Berger made her Wings debut in Tuesday’s 87–63 win over the Seattle Storm. Signed to a seven-day hardship contract on July 17, Berger logged four rebounds, two assists, and one block in 10 minutes off the bench in Seattle. Her appearance marked her first WNBA game since playing for the Indiana Fever earlier this season. Before suiting up for Dallas, Berger expressed optimism about the opportunity. “I think they’re an up-and-coming team,” Berger told DallasHoopsJournal.com before the All-Star break. “There are a lot of young players mixed with some good vets that I’ve been watching and playing against for a couple of years. I’m excited to be on their team and learn from them—people like Arike [Ogunbowale], obviously, there’s a lot to learn from her.” Though her time with Dallas was brief, Berger brought a poised presence to the floor and contributed during key second-quarter minutes when the Wings were climbing out of an early deficit. Berger, Indiana’s former No. 7 overall pick in 2023, remains a candidate for future hardship or reserve opportunities around the league. In 28 career WNBA games, she has averaged 2.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per contest. Dallas (7–17) returns to action Friday night against the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center. Five potential landing spots for Christian Wilkins after stunning Raiders release
The Las Vegas Raiders just stunned the league by releasing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins after only one year with the team. After signing a four-year, $110 million contract, he struggled with injuries in 2024. This was supposed to be a big bounce-back year for Wilkins, but after a dispute between the two sides in regard to how to handle his foot injury, the team decided it was best to part ways. Now, a premier interior disruptor is suddenly available. Assuming his medicals get checked out soon, there should be a lot of interest around the league. Where should he land? Dallas Cowboys Dallas has needed a dominant interior presence for quite some time. Osa Odighizuwa is an awesome threat, but he is only solid against the run. Alongside him, the team will be banking heavily on 2023 first-rounder Mazi Smith, who has been disappointing so far. With Dallas looking to return to the playoffs, adding a stud like Wilkins could give Dallas one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. San Francisco 49ers The 49ers added some young bodies in CJ West and Alfred Collins, yet neither offer a proven, all-around talent like Wilkins could if healthy. The 49ers defensive line was horrid outside of Nick Bosa in 2024, but by adding Wilkins, the team would now have a solid cast of starters with Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams, Wilkins and Kevin Givens/Jordan Elliott. Miami Dolphins A return to Miami makes a ton of sense for both sides. The Dolphins know exactly how to use Wilkins, he knows the building and players, and the transition would be very easy. Miami needs help in the interior defensive line; by plugging Wilkins back into his old role, he could offer the quickest path to high-level impact. Detroit Lions With Levi Onwuzurike out with injury and Detroit needing more juice on the defensive line, adding a proven disruptor like Wilkins could make some sense. He could provide more depth while he gets fully healthy, and he can join a legit Super Bowl contender. His energy and mentality could be a good fit for a Dan Campbell-led squad. Jacksonville Jaguars The Jaguars defense is average in the interior, but they have excellent edge-rushers who would benefit greatly from a strong disruptor up the middle. Wilkins could balance the front, help in the run defense and allow more one-on-ones for their premier edge-rushers. For a team that wants to return to the playoffs as soon as possible, adding a veteran like Wilkins could be a worthy bet to make.
Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan leaves behind a complicated legacy
On Thursday, wrestling icon Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea died at the age of 71. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the company said in a statement. "One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s... WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans." Hogan was the first true superstar to emerge in the wrestling industry, capturing a casual audience worldwide and bringing new eyes to the sport. He was an unbelievable draw, both as a baby face and as a heel. From his time as an All-American hero to leading the New World Order and teaming with Randy Savage as part of the "Mega Powers," he has been a staple of the scene for decades. Who can forget his WrestleMania III moment, where he defied the laws of physics to body-slam a 520-pound Andre the Giant? Or, more recently, his match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 18? His last appearance on WWE RAW on Jan. 6 saw him booed throughout, highlighting the rocky legacy Hogan leaves behind. Hogan's universal popularity has plummeted in recent years, primarily due to a racism scandal that led to his removal from the Wrestling Hall of Fame, only to be reinstated in 2018. Nevertheless, the damage had been done. Hogan's outdated and unwelcome outlook on specific aspects of life derailed the final stanza of a legendary career. Still, there's no denying that without Hogan, the wrestling we know and love today wouldn't exist. There wouldn't be WWE on the world's largest streaming platform, or All Elite Wrestling, which is developing into one of the most successful challenger brands. Instead, there would be smaller, more localized promotions, all competing for a sliver of television time. Hogan popularized the sport by bridging the gap between the wrestling ring and Hollywood. During his time in the spotlight, Hogan appeared in movies such as "Rocky III," "No Holds Barred" and "Suburban Commando," all of which helped bring his larger-than-life persona to a new audience. It's no surprise, then, that The Rock, John Cena and Dave Bautista have all made similar jumps in recent years. Hogan leaves behind an everlasting imprint on the wrestling world. Unfortunately, it comes with multiple asterisks; however, that doesn't change what he achieved as the first global wrestling star.
Insider Says Royals Are Eyeing Phillies Outfielder Nick Castellanos in Trade
The Philadelphia Phillies will be buyers ahead of the trade deadline, but how much they are willing to give up to reshape this roster isn't clear. For the most part, contending teams ship out their prospects to add established players, and much of the conversation has been centered on who the Phillies should or should not trade away in potential deals. However, there's a chance Philadelphia could get creative. More News: Insider Confirms Phillies Have Interest in Star Guardians Outfielder Steven Kwan Trading players from their MLB roster could also net them a return, and according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post (subscription required), someone who could be of interest to the Kansas City Royals is Nick Castellanos. "The Royals are seeking an OF who hits. Kwan, Jarren Duran and Ramon Laureano would fit, and they might consider Nick Castellanos, if available," the insider reported. This was a surprising bit of information. More News: Phillies Seen as Best Fit for Red Sox All-Star Outfielder at MLB Trade Deadline It's not clear if the Phillies would trade Castellanos or not, and with the outfield issues they already have, moving their best hitter in that unit would be a surprising decision. Who they would get back might dictate their true interest, since Philadelphia could also search for additional outfielders on the trade market and use Castellanos to acquire a bullpen arm or two from the Royals. Still, it's hard to imagine something like this would get done. More News: Jesus Luzardo's Regression Has Been Huge Blow for Phillies' Rotation It's a major risk for the Phillies to ship out Castellanos despite his inconsistencies, especially since he's proven he can almost single-handedly win a playoff series for this team like he did against the Atlanta Braves during the 2023 NLDS. But with Kansas City looking to make a splash addition to their roster who will help boost their poor offensive output, then perhaps they do offer Philadelphia something they can't turn down.
