The Indiana Fever made waves on Wednesday after it was announced that the team had decided to waive the services of six-time All-Star DeWanna Bonner after just nine games played.

Bonner, a two-time WNBA champion veteran, had been away from the team for personal reasons in their last five games, and it was revealed on Wednesday that she has now parted ways with the Fever on a permanent basis.

Bonner's departure paved the way for the return of guard Aari McDonald, who previously joined the team on a hardship contract earlier this month. The 5-foot-6 guard, however, had to be waived upon the return of Indiana's injured players.

It is clear, though, that McDonald made a significant impact on the team during her brief run. So much so that the Fever decided to sign her to a rest-of-season deal.

Indiana general manager Amber Cox issued a statement on the decision to re-sign McDonald as she shed light on the team's major roster decision.

"From the moment she arrived in Indy, Aari was a clear fit with the style and mentality we are building here with the Fever," Cox said, via Michael Voepel of ESPN. "Though only here a few games, her impact as a playmaker and a defender was evident. We are very excited to welcome her back for the remainder of the season."

McDonald is no star, but there's no denying that she brings a lot to the table for Indiana, particularly when it comes to her defensive intensity and her playmaking skills.

In three games played for the Fever earlier in June, McDonald averaged 11.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals, while also knocking down 2.0 triples in 25.3 minutes per contest.
