Indiana Fever Coach Stephanie Announces Caitlin Clark Injury Update
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Caitlin Clark has been sensational for the Indiana Fever this 2026 season, averaging 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 17 games played. She's tied for third in the league in scoring and second in assists, highlighting her incredible production nearly midway through the campaign.

Unfortunately, Clark suffered an injury during a June 24 game against the Phoenix Mercury. She appeared to tweak her back in the second quarter after falling when she landed on Valeriane Ayayi's foot following a rather dangerous closeout.

Clark was able to stay in the game, but it was clear her back bothered her. The Fever eventually pulled her out in the third quarter, and the All-Star guard didn't return.

The 24-year-old playmaker missed the Fever's showdown with the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, and her status remains uncertain as Indiana prepares for its showdown with the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.

Is Caitlin Clark Playing in Fever vs. Aces?

According to head coach Stephanie White, "it's still too early" to say for certain whether Clark will be active against the Aces.

Clark has already missed the Fever's practices on Tuesday and Wednesday, with White saying that she's doing individual workouts with the team's staff.

White also told reporters on Wednesday that Clark is progressing in her recovery, saying that "every day is a little bit better." However, she acknowledged the fact that back injuries can be tricky.

"For those who've never had back issues, every day can be something different," White shared, per Brian Haenchen of the Indianapolis Star.

"You can feel really good in practices or workouts or warmups, then you go to bed at night and you wake up and it's different. Or if you're sitting home watching television, you can get up and it's different. The back is a nagging thing that manifests itself in different ways."

What's Up With Caitlin Clark's Injury?

It's worth noting that Clark has been dealing with a lingering back injury this season. During the Fever's season opener against the Dallas Wings, she had to briefly leave the game to get her back adjusted.

The All-Star guard was also abruptly ruled out of the Fever's game against the Portland Fire earlier in the season due to the same issue.

When asked whether or not Clark's latest injury is related to her previous back issue, White said that it is indeed connected.

"It's not a new thing, I think it's a re-aggravation," White explained.
