Indiana Fever Coach Stephanie White Announces Caitlin Clark Update

Caitlin Clark watched from the sideline as coach Stephanie White guided the Indiana Fever to their first semifinal appearance since 2015, falling just short of a trip to the 2025 WNBA Finals after a 3-2 series loss to A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. White, in her first year back with the Fever, did this despite missing Clark for most of the season, while other stars such as Sophie Cunningham sat out the entire playoffs.

Clark played in just 13 games during her second WNBA season but was still named an All-Star after averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists. However, she missed the second half of the regular season and the entire postseason due to a second groin injury. And in early August, she also suffered a left ankle sprain that ruled out a potential return, an injury she described as “one of the worst sprains I’ve dealt with.”

According to White, though, Clark is making progress toward returning to full 5-on-5 practices. In a recent interview with the IndyStar, set to be fully released on Wednesday, White discussed the former Iowa Hawkeyes star’s recovery, noting that Clark has resumed participating in 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 drills.

“We’re not jumping into anything that’s too much,” White said. “We have the ability to right now take it on week-by-week basis, doing some 3-on-3, doing some 2-on-2, building into 5-on-5. Her being able to play in game-like situations is going to be important. It’s been a long time building back into that, but it is October, and she needs to be able to slowly build back so, from an endurance standpoint, she’s laying a really good foundation so she’s not having any setbacks or any regression.”

White also spoke about the frustrations Clark faced during her numerous setbacks in 2025 but emphasized the importance of ensuring the point guard returns at full strength.

"Certainly, having setbacks, then working your way back, then having another setback, all of that is frustrating," White added. "While it’s frustrating, it’s important that we get her back at 100% and that she’s comfortable, she’s confident, that she’s healthy, and that we can move forward in a way that continues to build for her career and her franchise.”

The Fever can expect some big changes coming during the offseason, especially with only Clark. Aliyah Boston and Makayla Timpson under contract in 2026. But Indiana fully epects its All-WNBA guard to be healthy when the new season begins.
