Caitlin Clark got off to a solid start to the 2026 campaign. She contributed 20 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two 3-pointers during the Indiana Fever’s season opener on Saturday.
However, it wasn’t enough to secure a win, as the Dallas Wings defeated Indiana 107-104. The lack of bench scoring from the Fever contributed significantly to the defeat, with only three players getting on the board. The good news for the Fever was that Clark was not hampered by the injuries she suffered last year.
The two-time All-Star played only 13 games in 2025 due to quad, ankle and groin issues. She missed the entire postseason and watched the team reach the second round from the bench. Clark has since fully recovered and is ready to lead the franchise to a potential championship run.
On Saturday, Clark recorded her 1,000th WNBA point. Fever general manager Amber Cox congratulated the star guard for her milestone by sharing the news on X.
Cox made it clear that Clark prioritizes winning over personal accolades.
“She doesn’t care a thing about this but a fantastic accomplishment for 22. Many more buckets to come.
️,” Cox wrote.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes star reached the feat in only 56 games.
The team drafted Clark at No. 1 in 2024, and she helped increase the league’s viewership. Indiana also became the most popular WNBA team since she arrived. Clark, wanting to achieve team success more than individual accomplishments, shows a lot about her maturity and professionalism. The Fever strengthened its roster in the offseason and added more talent around her.
Indiana will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they face the Los Angeles Sparks. Clark will also aim to improve her performance on Saturday by being more efficient from the field. She shot 7-for-18 against the Wings, including 2-for-9 from beyond the arc.
