Caitlin Clarksuffered an injury scare on Thursday as the Indiana Fever lost a preseason game against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. Clark limped off the court in the third quarter and was not able to return.
The good news is that the injury wasn’t serious. Clark said after the game that she just landed hard on her kneecaps. The two-time All-Star was back on the court in Saturday’s preseason finale against the Nigerian Women’s Basketball Team.
Starting alongside Clark on Saturday night was offseason recruit Monique Billings. Unfortunately, the 6-foot-4 forward went down in the first half. She headed to the locker room after tweaking her right ankle, per Fever reporter Scott Agness.
Billings was seen limping off the court in the second quarter after an apparent right ankle injury. This is after the 30-year-old veteran landed on the foot of a Nigerian player.
The good news for the Fever is that Billings was able to return to the bench after a quick trip to the locker room. She still had her shoes and socks on, and there was no ice on her ankle.
As of writing, the Fever have not provided an official update on Billings’ status. However, with the nature of Saturday’s blowout, it would not be a surprise if she ends up sitting out the second half.
Indiana currently has a 70-29 lead at halftime.
Billings was one of Indiana’s big-name recruits in free agency. After spending the 2025 season with the Golden State Valkyries, Billings decided to take her talents to Indiana on a two-year, $1.6 million contract.
Billings started all three preseason games for head coach Stephanie White, and she is expected to be part of the starting lineup for the regular season.
The injury from Saturday night does not seem serious, which means that she will likely be available for the Fever’s season-opener against the Dallas Wings on May 9.
UPDATE: The Fever have officially ruled Billings out for the remainder of Saturday's game with a right ankle injury.
