Indiana Fever Make Kelsey Mitchell Announcement After Big Win vs. Sky

No Caitlin Clark, no problem for the Indiana Fever.

There was a lot of anticipation heading into Saturday's marquee matchup against the Fever's biggest rivals, the Chicago Sky. One of the biggest storylines centered on Clark not being able to play in the highly anticipated game because of a quad injury.

Well, it turned out that this was not going to be an issue for Indiana at all. They cruised to an easy victory without their best player on the floor, defeating the Sky, 79-52.

It was Kelsey Mitchell who led the charge for the Fever in this one as the two-time All-Star stepped up to the plate with Clark watching from the bench. Mitchell finished with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and one triple in 25 minutes of action.

Shortly after the final buzzer, the Fever took to social media to announce that Mitchell has been named the Stat Leader of the Game after her incredible performance.

Mitchell is in the midst of another strong campaign for Indiana. Entering Saturday's game, the 5-foot-8 guard averaged 17.4 points, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.9 triples per contest.

That's now back-to-back blowout wins for the Fever after they beat down Chicago, 93-58, in their season opener. Indiana may not have defeated the Sky by 35 points on Saturday, but the fact that Chicago lost another blowout at home--with Clark sidelined--makes this an even tougher blow for them.

The Fever improved to 4-4 after this massive win, and the good news is that they are on track to get Clark back in their next game. According to the 23-year-old herself, she is aiming to return in Indiana's next contest, which is on Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream.
