The Indiana Fever opened a critical three-game road trip Friday night with a hard-fought 76-75 win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Playing once again without Caitlin Clark, who has now missed 17 consecutive games, Indiana leaned on Aliyah Boston’s dominance in the paint. The 2023 Rookie of the Year posted 22 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals to pace the Fever, who managed to avoid a season sweep against Los Angeles. Odyssey Sims also made strong contributions, adding 21 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Kelsey Mitchell, however, endured a tough shooting night, finishing the game with just 12 points, shooting just 1-for-6 from beyond the arc. Amid her struggles, frustration over officiating grew in the closing minutes when a controversial no-call sparked visible anger from several Fever players.
Among those who reacted to the controversial call was Fever guard Sydney Colson. Following the game, Colson—who is sidelined for the rest of the season with a torn ACL—took to X to air her displeasure, saying Mitchell does not get the same treatment as other established stars around the league.
Her post drew attention, including from Clark and other WNBA fans. One fan dismissed Mitchell’s status, questioning whether her name even deserved the ‘star’ label. However, Colson responded sharply within minutes, calling out that level of negativity:
“Waking up hating like this is scary ah, but do have a BLESSED day,” Colson wrote on X.

It’s not the first time a Fever player has been outspoken about the WNBA’s officiating this season. Most notably, injured guard Sophie Cunningham who has been fined multiple times this year for publicly criticizing officiating (via ESPN).
Contrary to the fan’s pushback, Mitchell continues to be Indiana’s most reliable scoring option, leading the team with 20.5 points, while adding 3.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 39 games this year (via StatMuse). A three-time WNBA All-Star, her production has been vital with the Fever missing four key guards: Clark remains sidelined, while Colson, Cunningham, and Aari McDonald were lost for the year earlier this month.
Despite the setbacks, Indiana has managed to hold strong, improving to 21-18, currently the in sixth best record in the WNBA and third best in the Eastern Conference. The Fever will face 8th-seeded Golden State Valkyries on Sunday, hoping to strengthen their playoff push with just five games left.
