Shey Peddy signed with the Indiana Fever on Aug. 19, right when the team learned about Sophie Cunningham’s season-ending ACL injury. Cunningham was the latest among the Fever’s myriad of injuries, which also included Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, who were both also ruled out for the remainder of the season. The Fever eventually shut down Caitlin Clark and Chloe Bibby as well, bringing up their tally to five season-ending injuries in 2025.
Peddy, a 5-foot-7 guard who played six games for the Las Vegas Aces earlier in the season, initially signed with Indiana on a 7-day hardship contract. She signed a second hardship deal before the team decided to convert it into a rest-of-season contract.
Peddy played nine games for the Fever in the regular season, averaging 5.2 points and 1.7 assists in 14.1 minutes per contest. The 36-year-old veteran was no star, but she played a significant role in head coach Stephanie White’s rotation amid the team’s injury crisis.
Peddy’s contract, however, has now come to an end, making her an unrestricted free agent. This only means that there’s no guarantee that she’ll be back with the Fever next season.
On Thursday, the former Temple Owls star took to social media to send a heartfelt farewell message at the end of the campaign.
“Joining a team late isn’t easy, but from the moment I stepped in, it felt like I was meant to be here,” Peddy wrote on Instagram. “From the bonds I made to the challenges we faced, this season was truly 1 of 1, and I’m blessed to have been a part of this special group.
“Thank you Fever fans for the love, support and showing out every game! Thank you to my teammates for rocking with me and making this season unforgettable. My heart is full because of you ladies. ‘We all we got. We all we need’ ”
Peddy’s emotional statement resonated with her Fever teammates, who were quick to rally behind the veteran guard.
“You’re an amazing basketball player ❤️❤️ the bestttt,” Aliyah Boston commented.
“Yeah that’s my Shey ❤️❤️❤️” wrote Natasha Howard.
“HOLD THAT,” responded Lexie Hull.
“Forever locked in,” said Sydney Colson.
“Shey !! The best. Love you hermana ❤️” posted Damiris Dantas.
“Our time was short together, but it was fun ” declared Aari McDonald.
“Shey P, my dawg❤️” Mikayla Timpson commented.
“Hold dat!! playoff Peddy!” wrote Aerial Powers.
“❤️legend,” Chloe Bibby replied.
“LOVE EVERYTIME I GET TO SHARE THE COURT WITH YOU #PackageDeal” Brianna Turner said.
“sheylaniiii my vet!” stated Bree Hall.
“❤️” the Fever posted.
Apart from the players, the fans also sent their messages of appreciation for Peddy, whose WNBA future is now clouded with uncertainty. However, given the impact she had on Indiana this past season, the veteran should be able to find a new team for 2026 if the Fever decide not to offer her a new deal.
Peddy made her WNBA debut in 2019 at the age of 30. Indiana is the fourth stop in what has been a colorful career, with Peddy also having stints with the Washington Mystics, Phoenix Mercury and the Aces.
