Sophie Cunningham's first season with the Indiana Fever ended prematurely, as she suffered an injury during an August game against the Connecticut Sun and missed the rest of the season. Cunningham tore her right MCL, which required surgery.
Despite the less-than-ideal end to her campaign, there's no denying that Cunningham made a huge impact on the Fever. She established herself as Indiana's enforcer and a reliable backup guard, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steal in 30 games.
While the Fever failed to make it past the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA semifinals without Cunningham, Caitlin Clark, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald and Chloe Bibby, the team has nothing but appreciation for all the players who made it quite the eventful campaign for them and the fans.
This offseason, the Fever have been putting the spotlight on their players as they look back at their 2025 run. On Sunday, Cunningham was the subject of the team's latest season-review post, and the team had major praise for her.
In one post, the Fever called Cunningham a "sharpshooter" after she registered career highs in field goal percentage (46.9%) and 3-point percentage (43.2%). In a couple of other messages, the team took note of the energy she brought to Indiana, even calling her an "energizer."
Cunningham has certainly made quite an impression on the Fever, and the fans absolutely loved her as well, as proven by their calls for her return next season.
The 29-year-old vet is a free agent this offseason, and it remains to be seen if Indiana will re-sign her. The Fever have only three out of the 16 players they had at the end of the campaign under contract next season. That being said, they will have plenty of decisions to make on whom to keep and who to let go.
