The Indiana Fever (22-20) are closing in on a postseason berth, and they strengthened their chances Friday night with a dominant 97-77 win over the Chicago Sky.
The victory came just a day after the team received tough news: franchise star Caitlin Clark personally announced she would be shut down for the season due to a lingering groin injury that has sidelined her since before the All-Star break.
Despite the setbacks, star guard Kelsey Mitchell made it clear postgame that the Fever are embracing a “we’re all we got, we’re all we need” mentality—statements that some WNBA fans didn't seem to enjoy.
“[It started] after [Caitlin Clark] got hurt. It was deflating. It was hard for people to see us and what we brought to the table as team,” Mitchell said. “Hats off to CC for, you know, being a great teammate... but the ‘all we got, all we need’ is just who we’re trying to be as a team and what we want the culture to be. We can’t help the ones who are not here... but the ‘all we got, all we need’ is kind of just a thing to put in the air because we all we got, we all we need—and that’s how it is, and that’s how it’s always been.”

"In other words we don't need her," a fan said.
Someone else added, "Girl CC would have never said this or anything close to this."
Another person wrote, "Caitlin please ask for a trade. We knew what she really felt about CC when her twin sister said those things."
One fan added, "Idk if Steph White and Kelsey are just not good with words but every time they open their mouths it feels like CC is unimportant and the team can be successful without her."
"Well she is now being platform as the MVP, right. So she doesn’t need or wants CC. Well wish her well and hope CC gets out of that hell so I can start routing for another team with CC in it," a fan reacted.
One more person commented, "Someone is doing Mitchell a huge disservice by sending her to these press conferences, because she, trying to boost the team's image, can't resist humiliating and devaluing CC."
Caitlin Clark has only appeared in 13 games this year, but that small sample was enough for her to earn the honor of being named one of the two All-Star Game captains. She made sure to select both Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, who joined her as fellow All-Stars.
Now, the Fever are just one win—or a Sparks loss—away from clinching a postseason berth for the second straight season. While their play hasn’t been flawless, they’ve managed to stay afloat without Clark, something few expected when she went down with an injury in July.
