Indiana Fever Star Gets Technical Foul Against Mystics

On Tuesday, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Fever faced the Washington Mystics in a matchup that saw both frontcourt stalwarts, newcomer DeWanna Bonner and rising star Aliyah Boston, make their presence felt early.

That is, before a second-quarter technical foul reshaped the momentum.

Late in the first half of that Tuesday night tilt, Washington’s Jade Melbourne drew a foul on Bonner.

Frustrated by the call, Bonner bounced the ball forcefully and was assessed a technical foul by the crew.

On the very next possession, Boston picked up her third foul, forcing her to the bench with just under three minutes left in the quarter.

Despite this, the Fever carried a 38-34 lead into halftime.

A former No. 5 overall pick in the 2009 draft, Bonner won two championships with the Phoenix Mercury in 2009 and 2014 and is widely regarded as one of the WNBA's all-time greats.

Over a 15-year career that included stops in Russia, Spain, and the Czech Republic, Bonner has been a six-time WNBA All-Star, a three-time Sixth Woman of the Year award winner and a two-time All-WNBA honoreae.

In February 2025, she signed a one-year contract with Indiana, making her Fever debut on May 17.

Boston, on the other hand, was the Fever’s No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft and quickly established herself as one of the league’s most promising young talents.

The 6-foot-5 center-forward won WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2023 and led the league in field goal percentage (57.8%) that same year, a first for a rookie.

In 2024, Boston was named to the All-Star team for the second consecutive year.

Through the first six games of 2025, Boston is averaging career-highs of 16.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting an astonishing 65.2% from the floor.
