Sophie Cunningham was a key piece for the Indiana Fever during the 2025 season, as she established herself as a reliable backup and an enforcer. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

In the Commissioner's Cup Final last July, which saw the Fever take the 74-59 victory and the title, Cunningham was the team's second-best scorer with 13 points, along with seven rebounds and one assist.

Unfortunately, Cunningham's season ended prematurely after suffering from a knee injury during a Connecticut Sun game last August. The 29-year-old guard tore her right MCL, which required surgery.

Now, Cunningham is recovering from surgery and is undergoing rehab. In a recent episode of her "Show Me Something" podcast, she talked about how her rehab is progressing and even gave fans a peek into her current mindset as she navigates her health along with free agency.

"I did some really tough rehab today, and it was really good. Really, really good, actually," Cunningham told co-host West Wilson after he asked about her knee.

Cunningham added, "I'm just actually really motivated and I think I'm at a really good spot in my life where, like, I'm just excited to just pour into my body, pour into things that I enjoy and I'm just so excited for this upcoming season 'cause I just don't know where I'm going to be."

For what it's worth, Cunningham also shared that she started a new diet as she looks to take care of her body better amid her recovery.

In a previous episode of her podcast, Cunningham had already revealed that she had stopped using braces on her injured knee and that she's close to getting a full range of motion back, per USA Today.

Cunningham is expected to be ready to play when the 2026 season kicks off in May 2026. As for the team she'll be on, that remains to be seen, although she has expressed interest in returning to Indiana.
