The Indiana Fever have endured a brutal run of injuries as the 2025 WNBA regular season winds down. After missing 29 games, including the Commissioner’s Cup final, Caitlin Clark announced Thursday that her season is over. She joins a growing list of Fever players lost for the year, including Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald and Chloe Bibby. This has forced Indiana to bring in numerous players on seven-day hardship deals.
On Friday, the shorthanded Fever, still trying to secure a spot in the WNBA Playoffs, faced the Chicago Sky for the fifth and final time this year. The Sky were notably without Angel Reese, who was serving a one-game suspension after picking up her eighth technical foul.
And early in the Fever vs. Sky game, coach Stephanie White held her breath as another Indiana player went down in pain.
Guard Odyssey Sims was added to the Fever's roster midseason on a hardship deal. She played well enough to earn a rest-of-season contract with Indiana amid all the injuries. She has also started in seven games at the point guard position, taking Clark's place.
With 5:31 left in the first quarter, Sims was chasing a loose ball when she was pushed to the ground by Chicago’s Michaela Onyenwere. The former Los Angeles Sparks guard stayed down in pain, holding her face as teammates rushed over to check on her.
Sims was forced back into the locker room for a while, but later returned to the bench, still available to play.

While Sims’ injury doesn’t appear serious, the Indy faithful still experienced a scare with the playoffs right around the corner. Losing Sims for any length of time would have marked the fifth guard the Fever have lost this season. Fortunately for Indiana, the team recently added Shey Peddy, Aerial Powers and Bree Hall to help provide depth.
After the Sky game, the Fever will have its final road game of the 2025 regular season on Sunday, facing the Washington Mystics.
