Indiana Fever's Free Agency Signings Prove Caitlin Clark Is Calling The Shots

We're not saying Caitlin Clark is the general manager of the Indiana Fever, but the team's offseason moves are quite telling.

The Fever knew this would be a critical offseason since Sophie Cunningham, Lexie Hull and Kelsey Mitchell were all set to hit the open market. While working for NBC earlier this offseason, Clark said Indiana's No. 1 priority should be re-signing Mitchell. That makes sense considering the three-time All-Star averaged 20.2 points per game last season.

"We really only know about five or six people that are going to be on our team next year, but I feel like we have a great core," Clark said. "Our first priority is to sign Kelsey Mitchell back. She was First Team All-WNBA last year and is my running mate in the backcourt."

Well, the Fever took care of business Friday by signing Mitchell to a one-year, $1.4 million supermax.

Less than 24 hours later, ESPN's Alexa Philippou reported that Hull agreed to a multi-year deal with the Fever.

Hull, who averaged 7.2 points per game last season, confirmed her return to Indiana by posting a video of her and Clark on TikTok.

Clark tagged Cunningham on this post and left this not-so-subtle comment: "hey what’s up wyd?"

Suffice to say, Clark wants Cunningham back on the Fever for the 2026 season.

Is running it back the right move for the Fever?

An argument can be made that Indiana should shake up its roster for the 2026 season, especially since Aliyah Boston doesn't have a ton of help in the frontcourt.

On the flip side, the Fever made the WNBA semifinals without Clark. If she's healthy and playing at an All-Star level, why can't this team contend for a title?

The Fever will begin their 2026 season on May 9 against the Dallas Wings.
