The Indiana Fever are still in a good position to make the 2025 WNBA playoffs, but amid their losing streak and recent injury setbacks, it's hard not to be concerned for the franchise.
Before their two-game skid, highlighted by their 35-point loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday, the Fever had a 99.2% chance to make the postseason. Now, it has slightly dipped, albeit still very high.
On ESPN's WNBA Basketball Power Index, the Fever have been given a 98.0% chance to clinch a playoff spot. Considering their situation, it's not bad at all.
However, they did drop from their initial No. 5 position, with the Las Vegas Aces surpassing them. Las Vegas now has higher odds to make the playoffs at 98.6%.
It's worth noting that the Fever are still fifth in the WNBA standings with a 17-14 record, while the No. 6 Seattle Storm and No. 7 seed Aces are both 16-14 — just half a game behind Indiana.
However, with 13 games remaining, the Fever will have to find a way to replace the production of guards Sydney Colson (left ACL tear) and Aari McDonald (broken bone in right foot), who have been ruled out for the season due to injuries. Both players suffered their injuries against the Mercury.
Not to mention, there's still no timetable for Caitlin Clark's return as she recovers from a groin injury.
While the Fever are still very much in contention for a playoff spot, the question really is where they will end up.
As mentioned, there's only half a game separating the Fever from the Storm and the Aces. The No. 8 Golden State Valkyries and No. 9 Los Angeles Sparks are two games behind them with a similar 14-15 win-loss record.
The tenth-seeded Washington Mystics trail the Fever by just three games at 13-16.
With that said, the Fever could see themselves falling further in the standings, with a possibility of dropping to as low as the 10th seed if they keep losing amid their injury woes and if the other teams continue winning.
