The Indiana Fever have shown steady improvement since Caitlin Clark returned from injury, winning two games in a row since the return of the 2024 WNBA draft's No. 1 selection out of Iowa to improve to 6-5.
Meanwhile, the New York Liberty, coming off a 2024 season that saw them win the WNBA championship, remained unbeaten for nine games before suffering their first loss against the Fever, with Sabrina Ionescu leading the way to a 10-1 record.
During a recent episode of the "Club 520 Podcast," former NBA player Jeff Teague, a dedicated New York Liberty fan, made his stance clear in the brewing debate between Clark and Ionescu.
In a brief exchange, Teague declared,
"I'm rolling with Sabrina."
When his co-host countered with, "Over CC?" Teague confirmed, "Yeah." His comments reflect a strong conviction that, at this moment, Sabrina Ionescu is the superior guard based on her current form and championship pedigree.
Caitlin Clark, who has become the face of the Indiana Fever, has continued to impress since her return from a quad strain, averaging 21.3 points, 8.7 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 44.7 percent from the field. Clark’s impressive performances on the court, including a record-setting triple-double performance, have earned her accolades such as the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award and an All-Star selection.
After being selected first overall in the 2020 WNBA draft, Ionescu has also cemented her status as one of the league’s elite talents. As a former standout with the Oregon Ducks, Ionescu has averaged 20.8 points, 5.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 45.8 percent from the field this year. Notably, she became the first player in WNBA history to record 500+ points, 200+ rebounds and 200+ assists in a single season, as well as the first player to record a triple-double in less than three quarters in WNBA history — an achievement she accomplished against the Chicago Sky on June 12, 2022.
With the Liberty’s dominant start to the season and the Fever’s continuous evolution, the discussion between Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu is likely to remain a compelling narrative throughout the season.
