The Phoenix Mercury have made a major decision when it came their desire to remain with veteran star Kahleah Copper for the long term.

Copper is approaching the 11th season of her WNBA career, her third with the Mercury. She stands out as one of the best scorers in the entire league, helping Phoenix make a remarkable run in the playoffs last year.

Phoenix knows it is important to retain its star players for the long term, continuing its presence as playoff contenders. That is why the franchise decided to extend Copper’s stay with a two-year contract extension, per reporter Kendra Andrews.

Kahleah Copper has resigned with the Phoenix Mercury, the team announced. I’m told it’s a two-year deal,” Andrews wrote.

It’s simply an easy decision for the Mercury to give Kahleah Copper the contract extension. They value her impact as one of the best players in the league, hoping she can maintain that level of play for this upcoming season.

Copper was unable to earn her fifth consecutive All-Star selection but still excelled as the second option on the team. She averaged 15.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game throughout 28 appearances. In the playoffs, she produced 17.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.

Phoenix enjoyed an amazing 2025 campaign, finishing with a 27-17 record. They took down the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx to reach the WNBA Finals before losing in a four-game sweep to the Las Vegas Aces. It marked their first appearance in the championship series since 2021, showing the progress they made to get back in serious contention.

The Mercury will look forward to the start of their journey in the 2026 season. After dealing with two preseason matchups, they see their regular season begin with a duel against the Aces on May 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
