Kate Martin Aces Debut
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

During the Aces second game of the season against the Sparks, rookie Kate Martin had her debut performance.

Despite being a coach’s scratch in their first matchup, Martin played over 26 minutes in this past game. She had contributions on both offense and defense filling up the box score.

Martin Impact

Martin comes from a winning program at the University of Iowa where she is coming off a stellar year averaging over 16 points and two steals. She was in the shadow of former teammate, Caitlin Clark who was the number one overall pick in this year’s draft.

She can impact the game in a multitude of ways due to her versatile skillset. It is shown that she cares about the defensive aspect of basketball. On top of this she can also affect on offense with her shooting ability.

In her debut she shot 1-for-3 on three-point attempts (33.3%) and 1-for-4 in total (25%). However, Martin is known to be closer to the forty percent range if she returns to her college statistics.

Besides being able to space the floor and show defensive tenacity, she also showcased great court vision. She was able to pile up three assists and five rebounds due to her hustling motor.

Guard, Chelsea Gray still has not played this season so Martin may see a change in minutes shall she return soon. No matter what, Martin did not disappoint in her debut showing that she is talented enough to be in the WNBA.

Aces next opponent will be the Phoenix Mercury on May 21.
