For the sixth time in their WNBA careers, former Iowa Hawkeyes teammates Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin went head-to-head. And, for the sixth time, Martin came out on top.
On Wednesday afternoon, Martin and the Golden State Valkyries ended a two-game drought, defeating Clark and the Fever 80-61 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (Indianapolis).
After missing five consecutive games with a groin injury, Clark struggled in her return to action, posting 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting, five rebounds and six assists in 25 minutes.
Martin, on the other hand, made her second start of the year, tallying five points on 2-of-7 shooting and two rebounds. What's noteworthy is that Martin is now 6-0 against Clark, including last season's contests when she was with the Las Vegas Aces (4-0).
With Indianapolis set to host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend, the local J.W. Marriott has unveiled a massive Nike billboard featuring Clark on the side of its building. And the Valkyries got a good look at it during their time in Indy.
After the win, Martin joined CBS Sports' Matt Lively for a one-on-one interview. When asked about Clark’s massive billboard, she revealed that her team was staying at the same hotel and went on to share her admiration for her former teammate.
"Yeah, I mean, that's where we stayed, so it was literally just right there on the building," Martin said. "You know, it's just super cool how this city has embraced her. You know, I just think that it's always cool to see one of your best friends thriving."

Clark and Martin spent four seasons together at the University of Iowa, leading the Hawkeyes to two straight national championship appearances. But Iowa could never get the job done, falling in both.
Clark will get one last shot to defeat her former teammate in 2025 when the Valkyries host the Fever on Aug. 31.
