After spending four seasons together at Iowa, leading the Hawkeyes to two straight national championship appearances, Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin went their separate ways in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Clark was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever, and her game quickly transitioned from college to the WNBA. Breaking numerous records, Clark went on to make the All-WNBA first team and win the Rookie of the Year award.
Martin, on the other hand, was selected by the Las Vegas Aces in the second round last year. She was later picked up by the Golden State Valkyries in December’s expansion draft, joining the league’s newest team.
Clark and Martin have faced off five times in their young WNBA careers, with Martin winning all five matchups. Their most recent meeting came on Thursday, when the Valkyries defeated the Fever 88–77.
On Monday, Martin joined Bay Area Sports Wrap’s John Wong during Golden State’s media availability. Wong brought up the idea of Martin reuniting with her former Iowa teammates, Clark and Monika Czinano, for a hypothetical 3-on-3 team coached by Lisa Bluder. Martin said she would welcome the opportunity.
"That would be awesome," Martin said. "That would be a good reunion. We obviously have a lot of good chemistry together, so that would obviously be a lot of fun.”
“3x3 [kate], monika, caitlin, coached by coach bluder?”

Martin and Clark have remained close friends since entering the WNBA. They frequently exchange messages on social media and even had dinner together the night before the Fever faced the Valkyries.
In her lone season in Las Vegas, Martin has seen an increased role. Through 12 games, she is averaging 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 16.1 minutes per game.
Clark and the Fever will be back in action on Tuesday, facing the Seattle Storm at 10:00 p.m. ET. Up next for Martin and the Valkyries, a matchup with the New York Liberty on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
