Former Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martin has continued to show her support for former teammate Veronica Burton.

Martin was among those who celebrated the Valkyries’ first WNBA championship after their 68-63 Game 7 win over the Atlanta Dream on Saturday.

Martin has singled out former Golden State teammate Burton by sharing two Instagram stories focused on the 5-foot-9 guard.

In her first Instagram story, Martin shared WSLAM’s congratulatory post featuring Burton as a newly crowned WNBA champion. Martin also shared a clip of Burton talking about her journey from training at a YMCA to a WNBA champion.

“Don’t let anyone put a limit on you,” Burton said during the trophy ceremony. “… When you work and when you put your head down and you grind, anything is possible.”

The 26-year-old guard from Northwestern has been a reliable playmaker for Golden State, especially in the WNBA Finals. Burton finished the series-clinching Game 7 with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists. Burton also sealed the victory with two free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining.

Gabby Williams led the Valkyries on offense with a game-high 30 points to secure Finals MVP honors.

Martin and Burton were teammates during the Valkyries’ inaugural season in 2025. Martin was among those who showed their support for Burton when she was named the WNBA Most Improved Player that season.

Martin had a decent 2025 campaign with Golden State, averaging 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in 42 games. However, the Valkyries decided to cut her shortly before the 2026 season started.

Martin then played for the Los Angeles Sparks and the Chicago Sky this year for a combined 19 games, averaging 2.6 points and 1.0 rebound in 7.7 minutes off the bench. She is set to enter free agency in the offseason.

Despite leaving the Valkyries, Martin continued cheering on Burton as her former teammate became a WNBA champion — a testament to their strong bond and the culture she helped build in Golden State.
