Kelsey Mitchell Reveals Upcoming Changes After Caitlin Clark's Injury

After a 2-2 start to the 2025 WNBA season, the Indiana Fever will be without star point guard Caitlin Clark for at least two weeks after news broke that she suffered a quad strain.

If Clark returns in 14 days, she would be back in time for the June 10 game against the Atlanta Dream. In this best-case scenario, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star would miss the Fever’s next four regular-season games, creating an opportunity for other players to step up in her absence.

One of Indiana's stars that will have to turn it up a notch if the Fever want to stay competitive is fellow All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell.

The eighth-year veteran has continued her solid play from last season, averaging 17.8 points and 2.3 assists through four games. But Indiana will likely need more from her over the next few contests.

Following the Fever's loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday, Mitchell and the rest of her Indiana teammates had the next day off before returning to practice on Monday.

After Monday's session, one that Clark was absent from, Mitchell spoke on her teammate's injury for the first time, revealing some adjustments she will have to make with Clark out.

"I think your aggressiveness has to be a little bit more disciplined," Mitchell said. "I got to be sharp in different areas on behalf of the team a little bit more. And just being a little bit more vocal. Not really my first thing to do, but I will sacrifice that for us to get some wins, especially while we can get them right now."

Mitchell also noted that Clark's injury is a "tough break," but noted it's a "perfect opportunity" for the rest of the team to come together.

The Fever will begin their journey without Clark on Wednesday, facing the Washington Mystics at 7:30 p.m. ET.
