Amidst the Los Angeles Sparks’ struggles to fix the win-loss column, Kelsey Plum remains a standout. And this time, her blazing stat line has touched an even higher ceiling.
The Sparks are yet to gain momentum and improve their 1-3 record. But the same couldn’t be said for Plum, who posted 25+ points across the 4 games. And I Talk Hoops’ recent X post revealed the true significance of her run.
“(Plum recorded) at least 25 points in each of her first 4 games,” they posted on May 20. “(It) ties Maya Moore for the most consecutive 25-point games to begin a season after Moore opened the 2014 campaign with 4 straight such performances, the same year she went on to win MVP.”
Despite the rough start for Los Angeles, Kelsey Plum has been the bright spot in an otherwise frustrating opening stretch, recording at least 25 points in each of her first four games.

Averaging 26.8 points, the Sparks Guard is shooting 59.4% from the field, 41.7% from deep, and 77.8% free throws. Currently leading the league in scoring, she is also adding 5.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds.
In her 7-year tenure with the Las Vegas Aces, Plum averaged 20.2 points and 5.1 assists in 2022. But for the next 3 years, she narrowly missed the chance to do the same and join Diana Taurasi, the only player in WNBA history with multiple 20-point, 5-assist seasons.
She is currently on pace to reach that milestone this season, with the results already showing. And looking past her own individual run, the Sparks star is equally optimistic about her team.
The Sparks’ luck ran out in 2020, following a five-year playoff drought. They are already standing in the bottom half, having won just 1 game in the season. But Plum didn’t seem to be affected.
“I have all the faith in the world that when the regular season is over, we will be there in the playoffs,” she said ahead of the May 15 game against the Toronto Tempo. “I have all the faith; it’s just the process.”
“We have scorers,” she added. “Different threats, different positions and when we’re locked in, especially defensively, we can be really good.”
The fate of Plum’s faith will be tested as the Sparks take on the Phoenix Mercury on May 21 and eventually face Las Vegas, Washington, and Connecticut.
