The Indiana Fever and the Las Vegas Aces split the first two games of their semifinals series. Now, they head to Indianapolis for Games 3 and 4 tied at 1-1.
Unsurprisingly, the Fever are considered underdogs in the series. The Aces are title favorites with a talented roster led by four-time MVP A'ja Wilson. Meanwhile, it doesn't help Indiana that it is missing key players such as Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald and Chloe Bibby due to season-ending injuries.
The Fever, however, aren't without hope. They know the threat that the Aces bring, especially on the offensive end, which is why they need to step up defensively if they want to win the series.
Indiana star and fan-favorite Lexie Hull said as much when asked about the keys to the series, emphasizing that the Fever need to "play good defense."
"Play disciplined defense," Hull said in a video shared by the WNBA. "I think it's just gonna come down to us being really locked in and trying to limit their chances."
Hull couldn't have said it any better, that's for sure. The reason the Fever won Game 1 was their defense, during which they held the Aces to 29-of-71 shooting as a team. Wilson, in particular, was just 6-of-22 from the field as Indiana took the 89-73 win.
In Game 2, however, the Fever didn't have their usual defensive edge and weren't able to counter the Aces' adjustments. In the end, Wilson dropped 25 points in the contest, while the Las Vegas squad shot 53.8% (35-of-65) from the field.
It will definitely be interesting to see if the Fever can lock down the Aces as they take the WNBA playoff series at home. If they can, Indiana should have the opportunity to close things out in the best-of-five battle.
