The Indiana Fever are adjusting through a critical early stretch of the season, facing multiple injuries while continuing to rely on their depth in an attempt to win games. Caitlin Clark and veteran guard Sophie Cunningham remain sidelined, while others have seen increased minutes.
Clark has missed five consecutive games due to a left quad strain sustained on May 24th. On Friday, head coach Stephanie White spoke to the media and provided a promising update on the reigning Rookie of the Year's status for Saturday's game against the New York Liberty.
"As long as we don't have any regressions, she's going to be ready to roll," White said.
While they remain absent, Indiana has seen increased contributions from Hull. In her third season, the 2022 first-round pick is averaging 9.3 points per game and shooting over 52 percent from three, both career-highs. She’s become a consistent piece in the rotation and developed a growing connection with Clark over the past year, both on and off the court.
In a recent interview with Stephen Noh of Sporting News, Hull spoke about Clark's all-around competitive nature, saying it extends beyond basketball. She mentioned that the two would often get into arguments during their couples' game nights.
"We’re not flipping the board over, but cards are getting thrown down on the table," Hull said. "We’re arguing, 'You can’t do this, you can’t do that.' But it’s fun. It’s all fun and games."
Hull also included that the group's mutual way of showing love comes in the form of jokes and trash talk.
"Caitlin, her love comes in that (jokes and trash talk) form 99 percent of the time, which is great," Hull added. "That’s what we love about her."
The Indiana Fever currently sit at 4-5, third in the Eastern Conference. They look to navigate through this less-than-full-strength stretch as they await Clark and Cunningham's return.
